Slow internet connection with Router
« on: October 15, 2008, 06:14:33 AM »

I have a brand new 655.  My internet connection is with Charter Cable and is 5Mb/s.  If I connect directly to my cable modem, I get around 2.8-4.5 Mb/s download depending on the time of day, etc.  After setting up the router, I am getting about 400-700Kb/s.  I only have one computer on the router, and I am using a wired connection.  I have turned off wireless broadcasting until this gets resolved.  Also, I have turned off the QOS and have set the firewall at the least restrictive settings.  Nothing worked.
I took the router back to where I bought it and got another one.
Started with Firmware 1.11.  Same problem.  Upgraded to 1.20.  Same problem.  Upgraded to 1.21.  Same issue.  I can't even "watch instantly" on Netflix through the router, because my download is too slow with the router.  If I take the router out and connect directly to cable modem I have no problems and my speed goes back up.  I'm pretty new to setting up routers, so it may just be me, but this seems pretty ridiculous.  Can anyone PLEASE help?

Japhy,

Try locking down the wan port speed rather than having it set to auto.

That worked perfectly!  Thanks so much!

What did you set your wan port speed to?
