[SOLVED]Vista WMC and dsm-750 video pauses
« on: January 04, 2009, 12:35:12 PM »

I have mp4s that were extracted from mkvs.   The bit rate is kinda high (3mbps and higher) that do not play correctly.  The video pauses during playback.  Not consistent.  Sometimes it'll play fine for a few minutes then pause a couple times, or pause throughout the whole movie.  I have the extender connected wired and when I run the network test it says its fine for hdtv so not sure were my issue is....  Any help would be great.  or even helping me get tversity to play the mp4 correctly.  With Tversity it says media not supported.

gonna return this thing and get another PS3.  Easier to spend the extra money on a PS3 then to try figuring out how to play the over 200 mp4s that I have on this box....

The DSM-750 now supports .mkv using the latest firmware version 1.02 are you unable to just play your .mkv videos? What happens if you play your .mkv via USB direct?

I've decided to keep trying.  I figured out how to convert the mp4 files back to mkv.  The only thing is I can't see the mkvs in extender mode.  It says file is corrupt or codec not installed.  I can play the files fine on the VMC PC so back to the drawing board.  But actually I may use mkv2vob to transcode them to mpg container.....  I'll keep everyone posted....

Mkv's do not play natively on the extender.  I called support and they want me to return the unit to newegg.  Not gonna happen.  I'll wait for another BIOS update to see if it fixes it.

I changed my MP4s back to MKVs and used MKV2VOB to transcode the high bit rate files to mpg.  I noticed on my 750 that any MP4-AVC that was over 2mbps were pausing during playback.  The same file transcoded to mpg played flawlessly.  I do not notice any quality degradation, so I'm happy.  I figure any new mkv I get I'll convert to mpg until they fix the mkv playing issues on the 750.
