When is the new firmware coming out??
« on: November 22, 2008, 06:20:56 AM »

I have been waiting for weeks now for the newer firmware that supports the 1.5TB hard drives to be released. Looks like I will have to bring my box into the office and have my co-worker who explained to everyone in the 321 forum how to hack the brower to format the drives to 1.5TBs to it for me... This is very sad that Dlink doesn't have the balls to release the same fixes to their 323 customers...

If I was your boss you'd all be fired right now! ;)

I have to side with DLink on this one. Breathing on the developer's neck to rush out a release isn't gonna help get it out any sooner. It's not a matter of having the balls to release a fix...it's a matter of releasing a quality drop. I would much preferred a thoroughly tested firmware release than a rushed/hacked beta drop that may have many potential bugs such as data corruption, etc...which would pissed off more customers as well as future customers. I don't have my DSN323 yet (it's on order), but I'm liking the customer support that it provides...after the sales. Just be glad that DLink is continually supporting their products with enhancements.

If you're going to fired them all right now, well...then you're not getting your firmware released anyway...threats doesn't help either  ;)

I agree with xmetal - BUT a 1.5GB patch would be very welcome if the 1.06 firmware
is getting lagged behind for some reason.

I got two DNS-323's and the new one I bought with 1.5's about 1 month ago, thought it
would be plugn play....

Sam,
I'm assuming you got the seagate 1.5TB drives? Did you hear about the problems with those drives, especially in raid configuration?

Here's the summary of the issue and what Seagate is "admitted" of the problem: http://techreport.com/discussions.x/15863

Here's another:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/seagate-barracuda-1-5TB-freezing,6558.html

But in my search of hard drives recently, I've run into many reports of having reliability issues even on the 1TB by Seagate, WDC, and Hitachi. The worst that I've seen reported was on on the Seagate 1.5T, which I've crossed off my list immediately. I guessed I will settle on the Samsung 1TB since it had the most favorable review - reliabilities and performance-wise. The Samsung isn't listed as a compatible drive for the DNS-323, but I'll try it out anyway.

This just shows what I have learned over many many years.
Seldom do I like to push for the newest drives on the market, because the manufactures are pushing the edge with them (and they don't call it the bleeding edge for nothing), my data is to important to me to play this game.
