Another Can't rename problem. SOLVED with Solution
« on: November 18, 2008, 01:41:09 PM »

Suddenly I can't rename files nor folders stored on my 323.
It has been working w/o problems for over a year.
I can read, create and delete both files and folders.
I can edit files and re-save them.
BUT I cant rename anything!
The network access is set to R/W for all everyone (that litle tickbox).
Permissions when I do a "ls -al", it shows user "nobody" group "501" permissions 777 on both folders and files.
The same problem both as mapped drive and through the network.
Error-message is " the "folder xyz does not exist, do you want to create it" or similar translated to english.

FW is 1.04 (dont want to change since it has been working ok).

PC is Vista64 Business.
Tried both the reg-hack and the local policies editor with no effect.

I suspect this is some sort of Vista/Samba error.
I have re-created the chare in Network access, deleted and re-mapped the drive, both as IP and name.
Reebooted PC and the 323 a number of times, with no change.

Any ideas someone?

I have the same issue on the same OS (Vista 64 Ultimate). It seems to be an issue between the Vista security user/permission and the DNS-323. I worked alot to find a solution, but didn't find a way around this. My hopes is for someone to provide some solutions or upcoming firmware 1.06.

Finally solved this issue.
It seems to be caused by a conflict with VISTA "offline files".

Quote
here is the solution you have all been looking for.
Your are correct. It seems to be an issue with the OEM version of Vista
and how the new Search tool works

ISSUE: Unable to Rename/Move Files/Folders in Network Drive
Symptoms: the error "The "\\servername\sharedfolder" does not exist.
The file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?"
comes up if a user copies a file from the Share, edits the file and then
tries to copy it back. You are however able to successfully save the
file locally.
A second issue was not being able to rename folders/files on the Share.
Again locally is fine just over the network is an issue.
Cause : Possibly the way the OEM vender packaged the OS.
Resolution : Create the parameters key in the following location :
HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/services/csc/parameters

Then within the parameters key, create a DWORD Value named
FormatDatabase with a value of 1 (hex) then reboot the machine.

I found this Here

Another thing I did was to enable "ofline files" in the controlpanel, reboot, disable them and reboot again.
Now I can change folder and filenames. :)

Simply brillant! Thanks TomasL.  ;)

Works for me too. I didn't have the parameter folder in csc, but I created one. I also did the offline file changes.

THanks again.
