FTP server - access to more than 1 directory
« on: November 19, 2008, 08:53:19 AM »

Hi all,

I've bought a DNS-323 few days ago and I'm quite surprised because I do not find how to allow a FTP user to access more than one directory/share.

Let me explain :
on Volume_1, I've got 3 directories : dir_a, dir_b and dir_c. How to allow a user to connect to dir_a and dir_b but not dir_c ?
On my previous FTP server (filezilla server) it was possible to add an alias for a directory into user's home directory (for my example, user connects to /Volume_1/dir_a/ as home directory and have a virtual link to /Volume_1/dir_b/ into its home dir...).

Could someone tell me how to do the same on DNS-323 ?

Thanks.

Yeah, I hit up against the same problem.  I wanted to give a single user read/write access to one directory tree but only read access to another directory tree.

I ended up having to create two separate user logins for them, which is a really lame workaround.

Some solution to this should be put on the wish list for 1.07.

Who can decide that ?

What is the ftp server ? I've heard it's pure-ftpd, but is this software able to deal with such feature ?

The ftp services on the 323 are very basic even when compared to Microsoft FTP (In Windows Servers).  There are several features I consider standard that are missing from the 323.  But I have to take it with a grain of salt.  D-Link has said time and time again the DNS-323 is a consumer device;

BTW, I love FileZilla Server.

Possible already now, but not so easy.

You could access your device by ssh and do some "mount --bind" stuff.
