Hello there!
So until last week i was using a WBR-1310 (Rev. D[2]). Recently, because of some business needs, I purchased a DIR-615, mostly for the DynDNS services that the 1310 does not support.
Let me say I run a DSL connection that is Dynamic in nature (Closed PPPoE, if it matters). We have two computers a a variety of other devices in the apartment that use the network access. We have two computers (mine, wired; girlfriends; wireless), an iPod Touch, and occassionally my friends bring their laptops over as well. However, at most given times, her machine and mine are the only active connections. My computer and her computer have static assigned LAN IP's, and both IPs are reserved on the DHCP table within the router.
For security, i use WEP for her machine (no need for WPA). i also have altered my default gateway address to 192.168.8.1. In addition, I use MAC filtering.
This is the problem I have:
We are very avid P2P and streaming video users. We have no cable at the moment, so the internet is our only means of entertainment. This includes downloading (uTorrent - ports are forwarded within the router, and everything worked fine with the 1310). The PROBLEM, is that anytime any one connected downloads, the router disconnects. This is also the case with live, streaming video (I watch streaming News all the time; for example, last weeks Mumbai attacks, and today's The Big 3 Automakers continued bail out request.) and within about 5 minutes of downloading, the router disconnects the WAN connection. For streaming video, i've noticed it lasts a bit longer, but never much longer than 10 minutes.
My friend has a DIR-625 he said he had the same problems with when he first got it -- however he is now unable to remember what he did to make it work. After some research around the web, i have found numerous complaints of the same situation, and other users simply returning it and switching to Linksys.
I have been an avid Dlink user and supporter for many years, and would like nothing more than to stick around. However, this problem is really starting to aggrivate me, and i get closer and closer to switching everyday.
Can someone PLEASE help me? I've done everything I can think of to make this thing stop, including restoring to factory defaults and starting from scratch. Nothing but putting my WBR1310 back in there seems to work for me.
Here's some more info, and osme things i have done to try and correct this.
Router: Dlink DIR-615 [Firmware V2.25 (latest)]
static IP assignment
DHCP reservation on
DMZ (to my machine. tried downloading, no luck)
UPnP disabled (friend with 625 suggested this. also, no luck)
Port Forward UTORRENT ... is forwarded to proper port [utorrent port test confirms) no luck
I tried setting it to Virtual Server, just to see, and this (didnt think it would) also did not fix the problem.
Application Rules for UTORRENT ... no luck
Set UDP Filtering ... Address Restricted ... no luck
Set TCP Filtering ... Address Restricted ... no luck
disabled SPI ... no luck
reenabled SPI/disabled DMZ/ NAT Endpont (UDP/TCP Filtering) ... Endpoint Indp.
The logs show nothing, except for numerous OUTGOING connections from my machine (192.168.8.101) to other ports while downloading/streaming, which are being blocked. Although I can't see a connection there, that would make my WAN connection to drop and immediately reconnect.
I'm EXTREMELY frustrated, and need some help
