Couple of quick Q's:
« on: January 15, 2009, 06:01:29 PM »

I've had the 323 up and running for close to a couple of years now.  I had installed 2 x 500GB HD's in RAID 1.  I'd like to upgrade to 2 x 1TB HD's just arrived and sitting/warming up on my desk right now.

1.  There didn't used to be a way to move these into the 323 and have the full 1TB in RAID1...is there yet?  I've upgraded firmware.

2.  I think I read there's no choice for file format any more?  If there still is...what's the rec here?  I went into the web interface and didn't see which I had chosen originally (thought it would be in the Status section).

3.  Any thoughts on Auto vs. 1000Mbps speed selection?

Well I can tell you for a fact that the DNS-323 is capable of supporting two 1tb hard drives in a RAID 1 configuration, because that is what I am currently running. I am using two Western Digital HDs. I am also running version 1.06 firmware.

Thanks, gs.  That's not exactly my question re: moving to 1TB HD's.  I saw my drive on a "good" list...so I'm sure they'll work.

What I'd like to do (seemingly such a simply thing), is take one 500GB out, replace w/ 1TB, and let the drives re-image.  Then remove 2nd 500GB and plop in my 2nd 1TB drive...let the drives re-image, and voila', 2x1TB HD's in RAID1 w/ full 1TB of space available less what is already used today (vs. 500GB in the RAID1 as it is "now" and the other 500GB either not available or separate from the RAID1 image).  Make sense?

Sorry, what you are suggesting will not work.  What will happen when you add the a new 1TB drive and re-image the RAID is, the 1TB will be split into a 500GB RAID partition (to sync against the existing 500GB disk) and another 500GB JBOD partition.

If you want to move to a bigger 1TB raid, here is a procedure you can follow:
First backup your 500GB RAID data (just to be safe), then
install both 1TB drives and setup the new 1TB RAID, then
restore your data to the 1TB RAID from the backup.

question #2) the only file format in FWv1.06 is Ext2

question #3) I've always used auto.

Thanks, MIG.  That's what i remembered re: the "can't quite do that" but just back up first and go from there.  Well on my way, w/ memeo cranking away at backup.  Yeah, I'll leave the speed on Auto as well, then...that's where it's been.

I have been having trouble getting the Auto Email to work.  Not quite sure what is up w/ that...I've tried just about every email config I can think of.  I know I have the outgoing SMTP server correct.  The only thing I could think of was my "Name" was either the first half of my email address or the whole dang thing.  Tried both.

I'm Sorry I don't use the email alert on my DNS-323

If you have upgraded your firmware to v1.06, I seem to remember some reports
of anonymous email not working anymore.  http://forum.dsmg600.info/t3563-Partial-soluton-1.06-email-problem.html
The firmware was improved to work with SSL email (gmail, etc), so perhaps you could setup a gmail account
to work around the issue and use gmail to auto forward to your regular account?
