FW 1.06 upgrade failiure
« on: December 30, 2008, 03:50:16 AM »

I have been running FW 1.05 since it came out, whit no problems. Today i upgraded to 1.06, and the process was ok, but after apprx. 10 min the HD lights turned purple.

Before this happend all the files were accessible, but obviously not after purpel lights lit.

Now what on earth is this? Dont like...

Try downgrading to f/w 1.05 ... hopefully the HDD's will be accessible and your content retrievable.

If all is fine, I advise:

- performing a full backup
- upgrading to f/w 1.06
- resetting factory defaults
- reformatting HDD's with desired HDD configuration
- restoring data to DNS

What is the status of you RAID configuration in the status page? If it is degraded try the Manual rebuild on the Tools<RAID tab of your DNS-323.

I DL´d the 1.05 and everything was fine. Just very annoying that the new FW didnt work out of the box. Maybe i will do the rebuild, but why? Just to much hassle.

A bad f/w update is usually a sign that something is up; as per my previous response ...

Make the time to do a *full* backup of the data on your DNS and rebuild the DNS configuration and HDD RAID after re-applying f/w 1.06.  While your at it, take a moment to check the HDD vendor site to see if the HDD's you are using have a f/w update available for them.

I suspect that there is some form of corruption that will 'trip' you up in future f/w updates.  Last thing you need to find out is that the files stored on the DNS are (or are being) corrupted.

Cheers,
