Step to install Bit torrent
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:47:41 AM »

Initially i have been facing lots of difficulties when installing the bit torrent in DNS323. After browsing thur the forum still find no solution to it.
Seems to be lots of funny bugs with the DNS323 or the firmware. However I had manage to get it up and running after weeks of trial.

I had initially install the dns with 1 500Gb hardisk and could easily install the Bit torrent according to the instruction given, using the easy search utility. (well, for those who had problem installing torrent, let's try it out with one HD).

The problem arise when I install the second HD.  The bit torrent could not work any longer. " Prompt - Connection to server failed". So I reinstall using the Easy search utility. Yet to no avail. Had tried many times by disable antivirus as recomended.  But still not working. To some instance it "Prompt - this harddisk no longer support bit-torrent". I had lots of data/document copied into the HD so it is not viable for me to do re-format things to my hardisk. So re-format is not an option at all. Both of my HD are loads with data....so "no re-format"

On how to delete the NAS_Prog folder you can refer to the link below and some advice on how to overcomes the problem

After I successfully delete the folder i tried reinstall again..... still failed. Somehow it just cross my mind if i could make it work again by using 1 HD. So i remove the first HD which is suppose to be Volume_1, and reboot. ( I did not swap the HD slot, it remains as it is)
After robooting, the torrent back to working order. Now the Volume_2 of the HD had become Volume_1. Bingo, it work as expected. Then I install the first HD to the same slot and boot up. Hence it become Volume_2 as stated. Finally I had everything work.
No HD being formatted. And the torrent is back in order now.
Somehow, I may still find some problem with "Connection to server failed" but it is not critical any longer, as I refresh the webpage and could easily get it back in working condition.
Hope my experiences here could help someone with the similar problem

this is a great advice.

i just added a 2nd HDD to my dns 323 (FW 1.05) , somehow dns323 wanted me to reinstall bittorrent on the 2nd HDD, which unfortunately I did (don't do this!!) from then on it gave me error message "Connection to server failed".

so as per the above steps, i deleted nas_prog folders and then removed the 2nd HDD, then reinstalled bittorrent on the 1st HDD, shutdown the dns, then placed back the 2nd HDD, then bittorrent is working fine. not even the "Connection to server failed" error message.

i lost my previously unfinished torrents though, coz i deleted the BT folders also (i was not sure what to delete, so I deleted all of the BT related folders).

anyway, just wanted to post that this method works!!.

thanks!
