40Mhz - How do I know it is connecting at this rate?
« on: January 08, 2009, 06:57:25 PM »

I've locked the router (DIR-655) to 40Mhz. When I look at the status/wireless I see 802.11n (2.4GHz) displayed. Does this have anything to do with the 40Mhz bandwidth?

The reason why I am asking is becuase I am still getting 6-8MB/s on data transfers when I am expecting it be around 20MB/s.

TIA

No.  The 2.4 GHz (2400 MHz) band is the portion of radio spectrum used for 802.11g.  20 MHz and 40 MHz is the width within that spectrum.

Channel 6, for example, is about 20 MHz wide and is centered on 2437 Mhz (2.437 GHz).
