Some devices require frequent reboot of router
« on: November 27, 2010, 11:39:53 AM »

Hi all. I have a dir-615 hardware is c1, firmware is 311na. I have no problems with the 4 pc's staying connected (1 wired, 3 wireless). Nor do I have a problem with the i-phones or i-pods maintaining connection. However, my wireless printer, xbox, and TV internet apps will often require a router reboot to "reacquire" their network ip. It seems to be random, and (for the xbox at least) won't occur during use...i.e.once connected, if playing, it will not disconnect, but if I come back later, it will require router reboot. The dhcp lease time is 10080 minutes.
Printer works fine most of the time, but occasionally will disappear from the network and properties for it will show some unrecognizable ip address (that I cannot open in a browser). If the router is rebooted, it works fine again.
Network is secure and has 40 available ip addresses. I'm thinking it has something to do with dhcp, but other than that, I have no clue. Any ideas?

try giving one of the devices a static IP and see if it keeps the connection, if it does then it may be easier just giving those devices static IP's

I have this same issue.  I assign an IP address to everything.  The iMac and iPad NEVER have any issues along with my Wii.  The two iPhones have occasional issues.  My PC and PC Laptop both run WinXP with 802.11g connections.  They can have issues daily along with my Roku XDS.  I haven't noticed any issues with my printer but I don't use it that often.

I have this issue also with any wireless device that tries to use the network. This includes at least four MacBooks, a Nintendo Wii, two iPhones, an Asus EEEPC and a Nexus S.

They all fail to connect properly (they can see the device, try to connect but fail to be assigned an IP address, even though they have all been set static IP addresses - well, except the Nexus S but that's a story for a different post).

As soon as I reboot they all successfully use the network. This works until they are either suspended, or leave the vicinity of the device and then come back (ie. leave the house and come back) and then they can't get an IP again.

A reboot always fixes it.

I've ended up buying an ethernet cable for the two laptops that belong to the house. Having to reboot the damned thing so the phones can use it (at least once every day) is getting to be a pain.

I'm using firmware "3.01 , Wed, 10, Sep, 2008" which my device says is the latest. The hardware is version C2

"They all fail to connect properly (they can see the device, try to connect but fail to be assigned an IP address, even though they have all been set static IP addresses"

Are you assigning a Static IP on each device or are you setting the static IP addresses on the router and setting the devices to automatic? It's recommended to assign on the router and leave each device to auto. The router should pass this IP assignments to each device. The devices need to be set for automatic.

Yes, the static IP is on the router and the devices are set to auto.

What wireless modes are you using? Can you try single mode G with out any security just to test to see if they will connect? Then go in and set Auto Cipher or WPA2 with TPIK and AES or just TPIK?

Re: Some devices require frequent reboot of router - update to 312na or 313na

Try to update the firmware to 312na or 313na. I used to have that problem before, and the newer firmware seems to fix it.

Good luck!

I've upgraded to 313NA after pretending to be American (the Australian site doesn't have 313NA or anything remotely like it). I also had to fire up Firefox since the router would not accept the file uploaded by Chrome or Safari.

This appears to have solved the problem. Now if only I could get DNS working :-(
