Combining my dgl-4500 and brand new dir-855
« on: February 21, 2011, 12:15:49 AM »

I already have the dgl-4500 and a dgl-4300 but just bought the dir-855 for the duo bands and the fact the 855 has a 350mhz chip while the 4500 has a 275mhz chip and can only use either 2.4ghz or 5ghz not both.

I already know about the page trick with ff and no style but when i try and choose bridge mode on the 4500
and save then come back it's again in router mode.

I'm probably going to need and check settings on a game system so i can manually enter them.

Do you think i should use the 4300 as 2.4ghz and the 4500 for n only 5ghz.

I have my dir-855 set to mixed g and n on 2.4ghz and n only on 5ghz as it was recommended.

It's too late to begin working on it now but later today i'll try and get it up and running.

You might run into interference issues if you have 2 routers set for 5Ghz band. I would set the channels as far apart from each other that will probably help. What is going to be your primary router? I have the 4500 as the primary and a Apple Airport Extreme Mixed G and N and a NG 3700 set for AP mode, N only at 5Ghz. The 4500 WiFi is turned off. Will be interesting to see how that might work for you. Please let us know how it goes.

My primary router is the new dir-855 and i thought i could either extend the 2.4ghz or the 5ghz with the 4500
and i don't know if i should mix in the 4300 as well.   I was working on it today trying to use the hidden WDS and bridge mode with my 4500...no success so far but comparing coverage and speed from my 4500 and the 855 duo i'd have to say the 855 by itself is faster and has better coverage.

With the dir-855 being a faster tricked out 4500(350mhz vs 275mhz and duo wireless vs either or wireless) i thought it would be perfect to extend either the 5gz wile my 4300 extended the 2.4 ghz or just extend the 2.4 band and call it a day.

No success so far but hopefully the 4500 if i get it working with the 855 doesn't fight with it.

Any ideas,my isp is twc/road runner turbo with power boost.

Ya i know about the hidden menus. Just don't know if they actually work if used or not. I haven't had a chance to try them out yet. If the menus do work then I presume bridging and possibly using the WDS option should be able to connect to and bridge to the 855.

Theoretically, using the WDS should work to help extend the WiFi.

BTW, what HW version is the 4500? Curious.

I believe the latest because i just swapped my 4500 out with the 855 within the week. That's the FW though
i bought my 4500 in jan 08 and just traded up to a duo router. The 855 already came with 1.23NA for FW so it should be the latest HW revision.

The fcc id says 4500A1 though i'm unsure how that affects WDS or bridge mode.   When last i worked on it
i  used the 360 to obtain gateway and dns while i used the 855 gui page to get it's mac address. After i saved the settings and rebooted it the 4500 got stuck measuring the speed of the gateway which it does upon login after a reboot.

I don't know if it should say online on the 4500 oled but i would expect if WDS and bridge were working it would.

Yes i use QUINTISON wherever possible it was my XBL name then also my PSN name and now my MLG account name.

By my pic you might notice i LOATHE default controls preferring my own control scheme. Southpaw, inverted aim and flipping the d-pad and face buttons on both 360 and ps3. Wii,move and kinect are ambidextrous so with wii/move i simply hold the navigator in my right hand and the remote in my left though kinect has nothing to hold i can still do that.

Now back to the regularly scheduled router issue.
