I have Windows defrag scheduled to run every Sunday, and I don't transfer large amounts of data onto/off my desktop harddrive.

As addressed in other topics, the NAS doesn't need defrag, nor is there a way to defrag it. (I believe I read this correctly).

What I'll try next is relocating the NAS to the same switch my desktop is located on, upgrade the cables to cat6 and try again.  5-10MB, 10MB if I'm lucky, is unacceptable, especially in light of hearing others attain 10-15MB/sec consistently.

Interesting - the coincidence makes me curious - especially since your numbers are so close, and also parallel some numbers I saw during the early testing of my DNS-323.

The big difference between my test circumstances and yours is I was seeing the 9MByte/sec on 100 mbps and the 18 MByte/sec on gigabit without jumbo frame, with jumbo, there was an additional increase  to roughly 27MByte/sec, and occasionally as high as 30MByte/sec.

Would you gentlemen care to include details of the network and the host used for these tests?

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

NAS: DNS-323
Firmware: 1.08
HDDs: Seagate ST31500341AS x2
RAID: no
Switch: dlink DGS-1005D
PC: windows 7 64 ultimate (network card was set to 9K JF).
Class D cables.

Not quite sure why, but just now I'm getting 1.5MB/sec transfer.  The only thing I did was run a manual defrag of my desktop harddrives yesterday.  This is insane.
