Xbox Live Minor Issues
« on: March 04, 2011, 04:45:15 AM »

My apologies for probably posting something that has been asked a million times on this forum, but I had 10 different questions to ask and it just seemed to make sense to ask one accumulative question here.

Just got the D-Link DIR-825, and plugged it in, working totally fine with everything.
Tried to connect the xbox 360 to the 5ghz channel and it doesn't even seem to pop up. I also tried to specify the network ( just incase if it was magically not broadcasting ) and that didn't work.
going into the settings it seems to be enabled and such, I don't know what's up with that. This is the whole reason we really got a dual band router.

it's 7:43, I forgot the other stuff. I'll probably post more questions on This THREAD if I need to. thank you very much.

oo! Port forwarding, should I have a set IP address in that box or just leave it alone? That forwarding website did NOT have one set on that screenshot, so I decided to wait until I heard from someone about this.

I don't believe that the Xbox 360 supports 5ghz.  You'll have to connect on the 2.4ghz channel.

You have to get the Xbox N wireless adaptor for the xbox. I have one and it does work. The first gen adaptors were only G cards.

Take a look at the gameing and gamefuel sticky: Gaming and QoS for XBL. Info is good for all DLink routers.

Thanks, I'm almost positive it's the new built-in n wireless card, but I'll check it out!

You must have the new gen xbox? I forgot they have built in ones.
I presume you have tried the single mode N at 5Ghz and it's not working?

You seem to be right here:
http://forums.xbox.com/35619901/ShowPost.aspx

So it looks like the OP box is working, its just the new gen boxes don't support the 5Ghz band. If you want 5Ghz, you'll need to but the external USB wireless adaptor as they support it. I have one.

Screw that, we're hardlining everything with cat6's and such. Just have to deal with the slightly slower wireless for the time being. Thank you though.

I don't understand WHY they wouldn't support 5ghz though, ridiculous.

I hear ya...I prefer hard wire for gaming anyway, my house is Cat 6.

There are some issues of using 5Ghz. It's susceptible to obstructions and works best in line of site with out any thing in the middle. It's just the nature of the beast and happens for all devices operating on the band.

You'll be happier with wired. Keep us posted.

Yeah Unfortunately the router and tv have both a microwave, counter-top stove, oven, and etc. in between them. Which pretty much blows for internet speeds until we get the cables set up. 'Tis bareable for now though.

I've come across another problem, and not quite sure how to fix it due to me not being able to find a definitive answer as to why it's dropping.

I have the original motorola droid, it's disconnected but I like to use the wifi on it for pandora and such when I'm around the house. Whenever I connect it to the router, it drops, then tries to reconnect, and does the same thing over again. I've tried opening a guest network.
a/b/g/n is available so IDK if that's the issue here. I highly doubt it. Wondering if anyone could possibly have any idea as to why this is happening?

Try switching the WiFi mode to Single mode G @ 2.4Ghz...
