Greetings - I have a new DNS-321 and setup was going perfectly;
- Drives installed
- Found on Network
- Formatted fine
- Mapped using default open access - no problem.
- Created a few directories on the drive, no problem (using the default open access).
- Deleted the default open access, to set up user names / directories.
....then, using the web interface I created separate user names for myself and my wife, and gave them both passwords. Went just like I'd expect. I assigned the user name (mine) to a directory on the drive, and now cannot map the drive in the operating system using "Easy Search". When I try to map the drive, I'm asked for a password. None of the passwords I can think of work. I've tried:
- User Password I created in the drive (what I thought it needed).
- Logon for the computer that's trying to map the drive.
- Admin password for the drive (out of desperation).
Nothing works - I can't map drives this way. I have been cutting and pasting the passwords, to ensure I'm typing them right. I re-established the default open share, and can map the drive just fine. But, when I delete the default and try to assign users to directories, I get asked for a password that I can't seem to supply. Dumb questions;
- Does the user name in the drive have to be the same as the name of the computer trying to map the drive?
- Can you map a user name to the root directory of the drive?
- Are there limitations to the password or user name in terms of length or characters?
...would some nice person smack me with the "clue by four" and tell me what I'm doing wrong...??
Thanks in advance - B.B.S.
