v1.09 Time Settings Major Bug
« on: March 13, 2011, 05:13:24 AM »

Basically, v1.09 of the firmware on my unit has no provision (as near as I can tell) to actually set the time. Plus it did not switch to Daylight Savings Time despite having been set to. A screenshot is here:

Note the Time Settings screen above also has no place to set a time server either. What gives and how do I get this unit to have the correct time? It's present time setting was preserved from the setting in the firmware version that came with it (v1.06, if I recall).

This is a known issue. If you telnet in, you can set a proper TZ value such as "EST5EDT,M3.2.0,M11.1.0" and it will change the date properly.

Thanks. But how in the world do firmware upgrades "lose" an ability like this? It implies there's no version control of the source code. Haven't the people working on the firmware ever heard of things like CVS (http://www.nongnu.org/cvs/) ?

I think what dosborne meant is that the NAS has never coped with daylight saving properly, and a hack can be used to get round that.

As for not being able to change the time (or set it from your computer) it looks like a chunk of your page is missing. Which browser are you using to view it?

AFAIK only cloud backup was added to 1.09, I don't think this broke.

I use FireFox. I suppose I can try logging into the DNS-323 using Internet Explorer and see if that works any better.

For what it's worth, it works for me in IE8, Firefox (3.6.15), Chrome (10.0.648.133), Opera (11.01), Safari (5.0.3). Can't be bothered to fire up my VM for IE7 and 6, but I'm guessing the same result.

I am running 1.08 firmware, but I don't think this broke in 1.09. Maybe someone with 1.09 can confirm.

Everything looks normal using Safari and Firefox on both 1.09 and 1.10b.

The issue is whether the "Enable Daylight Saving" checkbox is checked. In 1.09, if it is, then it suppresses the rest of the dialog.
Checked:

UnChecked:

These parameters should not be interacting this way. It's called a bug.

I've never had the need to use DST, so I don't know what happened with the earlier firmware revs, but I just tried this in the 1.10 beta and I cannot make the NTP server or manual entry sections disappear.

I've DST checked in 1.08 and the NTP and manual settings are still there and work fine.

Must be a 1.09 bug, then.
