D-ViewCam Changes to 3.1.1 (Better or Worse?)
« on: February 04, 2011, 06:28:33 AM »

I used to be able to just link to my 3 x DCS-5220 with Version 2.04, upgraded to 3.1.1 as I have frequent
missing video image even when my cams are running (accessible from web browser), thought it would be
better. But I'm wrong...

My configurations are as follows;

CAM 1 (DCS-5220), virtual server setup on router (external:8081) point to (internal:8081)
CAM 2 (DCS-5220), virtual server setup on router (external:8082) point to (internal:8082)
CAM 3 (DCS-5220), virtual server setup on router (external:8083) point to (internal:8083)

Used dyndns.org for connection to internal cameras. example: mycameras.dyndns.org:808x
In version 2.04 and below, this works perfectly. Can see image and hear sound without any other
port forwarding etc. In Version 3.1.1, I am no longer able to connect with the same setup as above...
Why? Can someone from D-Link please explain why is this so? What do I have to do to view all 3 cameras?

I'm not sure if this will help or not.....

I just upgraded from 2.0.3 to 3.1.1 & couldn't detect my wireless camera either in the "Viewer" (Live motion).  I only have 1 camera so far, now I'm planning more.  I'm not using remote viewing - just record on motion detection.

I had to enter a username & password for the camera on the camera configuration page (sorry, don't remember how to get there now - "Config/Settings": icon that looks like a gear I think).  As soon as I did that the video came right up.

For my needs I think 3.1.1 is FAR superior to 2.0.3.  I still have the cameras "disconnect" periodically although I don't think it occurs as often with 3.1.1.  I'd like to understand it to see if I can find a practical way to fix it.  I don't think it's the link between the PC & my router - it has been rock solid.  It may be the link between the camera & the router.  Since the camera is a 2.5GHz instead of 5GHz this may be a concern.  I also have "jerky" video streams more often than I'd like.  Not sure if this is the camera, the link, the router, or the PC.  I'd also like to understand this to find a practical way to fix it as well.  But on the whole I'm very pleased with it for the basis of my home surveillance system.

The 3.1.1. user's manual leaves a lot to be desired.  I think the software is VERY good & VERY powerful but without clear & concise directions it leaves much to be desired.

Good Luck.
