Getting started with Shareport
« on: November 04, 2010, 09:02:49 PM »

Am trying to get Shareport (Router: DIR-655; HW: A4; FW: 1.34NA; OS: XP Pro) set up for the first time and I have a few questions since it doesn't seem to me like the app is working the way the manual assumes:

1) How do I determine whether the Shareport Utility is even communicating with my router? When I open it, I get the "No device servers were found on the network" message, but I see no indication of whether the app is even connecting to the router.

2) What optionsn should I have on the DLink admin page and what should I be doing? Under SETUP-->USB SETTINGS, have a dropdown for "My USB type is" containing the options "Shareport" and "WCN". When I choose "Shareport" and hit SAVE nothing happens other than a popup saying "Nothing has changed. Save anyway?"). Should something happen?

As you might imagine, nothing happens when I plug a device into the router.

My wireless is working, so I'm obviously connected to the router.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Hey on the router you will see the LED lit with the USB symbol if it's connected.  If not unplug the router for a couple of mins and reconnect it with the USB device plugged into the router should work

Me too. Does anyone have success with Dir655 and shareport with printers? I'm also A4 but still v1.21 because my 655 is claiming to already to have the latest firmware.

Suddenly I have the same problem yesterday since I have bought this router.  Having installed Shareport 1.17B01 downloaded from the Australia Web Site but the Shareport still in "Red" face.  I checked that the cable connected from the router to my Epson EPL-9500 printer was an "Full Speed" cable, it came to my mind that it should be an USB 1.1 cable.  I then change the cable from my mobile harddisk (an usb 2.0 cable) to link to the DIR655 and the shareport utilities finally find my printer!

I suggest that those who find Shareport cannot recognize the printer should try to connect with the "USB 2.0" cable.

I'm using Win7 Ultimate and Dir-655 Rev B.

after finding out that the usb port on my router is useless with out share port the router will be going back to the vendor. I think a Belkin or linksys router is going to find a home here. I don't like to be forced to use software in order to get all the functionality that I paid for

Please note, I think AUS SharePort and US Shareport versions may be different.

Check to make sure you have the latest firmware, and the latest version of SharePort per the D-Link support site for your country. If any issues with SHarePort on US version, check here:
