DIR-655 B1 - restricted download speed(selectively)
« on: September 26, 2015, 03:23:27 AM »

Hello

I have a router DIR-655 B1 FW: 2.09

When I plug the ethernet cable directly from the wall to my computer I have a download speed more than 27 MB/s everywhere. Speed test measurements show values up to 900/900 Mbps and  up to 300/300 when I use the router, but this is a minor problem even if I would like to reach higher speed with the router.

The main problem is that download speed decreases up to 2 MB/s when I download large files even if speed measurement shows much higher values. The problem does not apply to all websites/download servers. For example when I download files (sw, movies, etc.) from a download server and cloud services, the download speed is slow. When I download for example software from Microsoft MSDN, the speed is more than 20 MB/s

Firstly, I was thinking that it was a temporary problem of that websites/servers but after testing I am sure it must be somewhere in the router because everything goes fast when I use wall connection.

I have been searching a lot and tried a lot of setup changes recommended here at other topics, but I have not succeeded.

Thanks for a help.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?
  Link> >FW Update Process
  • Was the router working before any firmware updates?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Is Traffic Shapping and QoS enabled? Disabled and test again.

Those ISP speeds maybe beyond the limits of this model router.
