Log viewer never shows anything.

Log viewer never shows anything. I have recordings and sent emails but the log shows nothing. Is there some setting in this most unuser friendly piece of name brand software that I am missing. This software seems to have settings that are all over the map. Dlink better hope Apple never gets in this business or they're toast!  :-[

Update : I set the event report to auto pop up in settings since then the window was popping up but never had any actual info or event listed then I happen to see one pop up and for less than a second there was something listed but dissappears before you can read it. Is this normal operation?

I am trying to figure this out myself.  I am trying to get a history of disconnects between the camera & the PC (what the user's guide calls "Lost Video") to measure the reliability of my spiffy new wireless N+ router.

I think the key here is using the "SmartGuard" option.  You have to configure the SmartGuard to trigger on motion (or in my case lost video) & take an action.  Like "record video" for motion or "detect connection" for lost video.  I think it will then create the permanent log file you are looking for.  After you configure the SmartGuard options you MUST enable the SmartGuard application from the icon all the way to the left (Start Monitor) on the Viewer (Main Console) page.  This will cause the SmartGuard to run & record events in the log.  At least the user's guide claims it will.  See page 74 of the user's manual on this topic.  I'm going to try this after work tonight.  I'll let you know if I make any progress.

This system has a lot of powerfull features but the documentation is a little lacking.  I didn't find the "nerd herd" at D-Link support very knowledgeable regarding this software either.  If I can find my way through this stuff I think I'll have a very respectable video surveillance system.

Good Luck

The System part of the Logviewer, should give you something... Works fine with me. Just not much on the basic log. But also exports and backups appear on the third log-tab contents.

Have you tried 3.11? That is where I see 2 of the 3 tabs with output. Have not had any "motion detected" log ever, not on 2.03 upward. I could see the markers on the playback time-selection screen in 2.03, but that seems to have disappeared in 3.x

I think I have success on this front.  Maybe...... ???

I setup the SmartGuard on "Lost Video" & generated a ring tone when it happens.  Then I enabled the SmartGuard function.  I removed power from the camera for a few seconds & let it restart. I did all this before work yesterday.

After work yesterday I checked the Log (from the General Settings & Utilities Icon - the "Gear" on the Main Console).  I selected "All" in the drop down menu for yesterday's date, pressed the search key & BANG: the Lost Video records showed up.  I only setup SmartGuard for Lost Video and that's all I got.  Cool. ;D

Until......  I then searched earlier dates.  I turned my system on for the 1st time on Saturday.  When I searched all for earlier dates I also get Lost Video records for each date between then & now.  I also see D-ViewCam events like Enabled SmartGuard, Enabled Recording, etc. show up.  No Motion Detection - just key events that the system recognized as worthy.  Including Lost Video.

So now I'm not sure if the SmartGaurd has actually caused logging of this data or not.  It's possible it was there all along & I just never opened the log from the "Gear" Icon before.  I have more experimenting to do but it's cool that I can find the Lost Video detection records now.

Now I just need to nose around a little more to find out how long the each disconnect lasts.  I'm trying to establish the "availability" of the system.

I've experimented with this more over the weekend.  Now I'm completely confused.  Sometimes things show up in the log, sometimes they don't.  No rhyme or reason, no idea why.  Nothing EVER shows up in the Playback log.  Don't know how to pursue this any furtner.

I think the only answer is to await the next upgrade.  Hopefully things on this front will make more sense......
