Hi everyone,

I picked up 2 DNS-325s and so far I am liking them.  However, I have a LARGE Music and Video library.  2.4 TBs in all.  As a result there are single directories that have almost 900+ subdirectories.  As a result it takes 2 to 3 minutes to display the contents (just the other directories).  I am not sure why DNS-325 performs so slowly.  It just has to display the contents of that directory.  I have an Apple Time Capsule with similar amounts of subdirectories within a single directory and the it doesn't have a problem displaying things straight away.  In my DNS-325s I am using 2 2 TB Seagate Barracuda drives.  As far as I can tell the DNS-325 is healthy no errors in the log or anything that would point to some hardware problem that could be causing this.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Without considering the root cause, a simple solution is to parse the parent directories into multiple sub-directories to reduce load time.

I just ordered my DNS-325 and 2 Seagate 2 TB Hard Drives and was wondering if all I need to do is just insert them into each bay or load the software for the new Hard Drives? or does the Link device do all the updates for everything on it's own?

Maybe you need a driver update for your Hard Drives.

Hope I will not have the same problem.

If someone could let me know I'd appreciate the help.

Power down the DNS-325 and insert the drives.  Power-up the unit and open the firmware page via the IP address.   You don't need to load any drive-specific software.  The firmware page will prompt you for the formatting details.

(PS -- in the future, post questions under a new topic if they are unrelated to the existing thread)
