Does the firmware login page display? Resetting the device to the factory default firmware should permit you to login if you've forgotten your password.

Did you restore the default firmware using the reset procedure?

I have tried different things, even removing the disks, and I thing I have recreated what you describe twice.
   - If I entered the incorrect IP address or it was not connected to the network.
   - If the unit was powered off.

In a Windows environment use the easy search utility on the CD.

I have to reset the device to use the easy search.
It happens when I try to configure the device as an ftp so as to do complete pc backup to another location with drive clone pro or windows backup.
It looks like the settings I try to set do not get issued to the device or the device fails to react to the configuration then the loggin screen just sits and waits...

I am relatively new at all this and I am going to assume the DNS-323 may be new to you.  If you have not done this, I would suggest you go through the entire DNS-323 setup process and get to the point where you can read and write to the unit from your Windows machine.  After that that is working, try some simple FTP transfers.

I can get to the point where the easy search utility finds the device, the HD's and all the ip info, I can connect bith HD's it's the point where you select the configuration option on the easy search console that a new page/browser opens and this is where it all halts....

As shown on page 8 of the QIC ver 1.3 when you highlight the available dns-323 and click as indicated the configuration option the browser opens but it is blank and it is trying to connect to the device to set the options.

I am trying to match my notes with your description.  If I am correct, my notes say several times to wait until the browser refreshes.  I think there are times when the system is saving the configuration settings that the process takes longer than I think it should.  Sometimes it is quicker to wait.

Is the QIC v1.3 the booklet that comes with the unit?

Have you tried using a different browser on your PC, or a different PC, or temporarily disabling any antivirus or firewalls that could be causing the issue.

I understand you are frustrated, but you need to realise this isn't a typical fault with the NAS and is likely to be specific to your setup- including your computer and network. No one here yet knows much about either.

Perhaps you could tell us a bit about your network setup, what is connected to where, what firewalls, antivirus software, Windows version you have, what firmware version is running on the NAS. It's time consuming and boring to find out and answer these questions, but without some background information, it's impossible for any of us to try and figure out why something is not working for you.
