USB disk read/write permissions
« on: April 14, 2011, 03:27:25 AM »

Hi,

I've attached an USB disk to the nas (formatted in ext3). The problem is : I can't set permissions to this usb disk in the "Network Shares" settings. The modify button for share "USBDisk1_1" is disabled.

So, each time I plug a usb disk, everyone can access the datas of the usb disk, without permissions, logging with an anonymous ftp account !!! It is a huge security problem for me...

Is there a way to set permissions for usb disk ? Am I missing something ?

Thx for replies...

No, permissions cannot be set on USB, P2P, aMule etc. The permissions can only be altered for the actual physical HD volumes and/or sub folders.

Report it to D-link as an issue and they might include it in the next firmware.

Doubt it can be implemented in firmware as there is no way for the OS to differentiate between USB storage device that plugged into the NAS USB port.

Sure, but it could be disabled by default for anonymous FTP login !

Do you know where to report issues or requests to D-link ?
