Moving drives from one DNS-323 to another

The ethernet port on my existing DNS-323 has gone bad. I am planning to order a replacement enclosure. Will the new DNS-323 provide an option to preserve the data stored in the drives (I was using RAID1) when I move the drives over? I would assume that should happen but want to make sure.

If I need to backup the data, I assume I need to use a Linux or Mac Machine to connect to the drives using a USB to SATA cable / SATA drive enclosure.

Please advise.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just use the same or newer firmware. Wouldn't hurt to be sure to save your configuration to a file as well.

You can sawp the drives to the new enclosure with no loss of data - you will have to recreate users, groups, etc.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

The recreation of configuration (user, groups etc) should not be an issue.
