Does Motorola Xoom crash the DIR-615?
« on: April 26, 2011, 08:12:15 PM »

I just got a new Motorola Xoom and brought it home. At the same time my DIR-615 started crashing daily. The wireless won't work, and I have to reboot it and it starts working again for a time.

Only it didn't crash on my wife during the day, when I and my new Motorola Xoom are at work. However, it always crashed when I got home and turned on the Motorolla Xoom.  So this weekend I left the Motorola Xoom off, Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, no crash.

Sunday late evening, I decided to test it. If I turn on the Motorola Xoom and the wireless stops working, I am on to something...so I turned on the Motorola Xoom and the wireless stopped working within a few minutes.

So unless someone can prove otherwise, I am claiming that my DIR-615 wireless crashes when I connect my Motorola Xoom to it.

Anyone else seeing a similar issue?

Also, I am not saying it is D-Links fault. Just as likely to be Android's fault. However, D-Link should NOT be crashing. DLink should determine if this Android, DLink interoperability problem is occurring and if so, try to fix it with firmware, and if they can fix it, release a Firmware update.

Does this happen if you switch the WiFi mode to Single mode G and change from Auto channel scan to Chl 11 or somthing?

I doabt they will fix it with a firmware update, since it isn't a firmware bug, but more likly just wireless inference between the Xoom and that wireless band or channel. If your Xoom has it, try disabling it's 3G radio. Also, do you have it set to act as a Hotspot?

It is a Wifi only version of the Xoom.

I set it to single G.

I have set it to a static channel (no other wifi is in range, Yes that surprises me too. I used to have one neighbor with one but they moved recently) so the channel shouldn't be conflicting with another wifi.

I don't have a home phone, so no wireless phones.

I will monitor these two settings for a day or two and try to post back the results.

I think that this issue isn't exclusive to the Motorola Xoom. I have a BlackBerry PlayBook and I'm also having the same problem with this router. I start using it for a while and a few minutes later, the router stops working and nothing loads. I need to reboot the router in order for it to start working again. I've had to basically turn off the WiFi on my PlayBook at home in order for the router to work.

I think that this is clearly a problem with the router and it seems to be having it with modern tablets.

Does the play book have cell service or WiFI only?
Have you tried Single mode G at 2.4Ghz with and without security set?
What security mode are you using? WPA2 is preferred.

Well currently the PlayBook doesn't offer a 3G or 4G model so it's WiFi only. My security mode is WPA2 and it's set to 2.4GHz since there's no 5GHz option. I haven't tried 802.11g only but will that lower the performance and/or speed of the other computers on my network?

Just recommending the mode change to test short term. You can set it back later. only changes the connection speed between router and wireless devices.
