Remote NAS assistance.

Ok so I have exhausted troubleshooting with Iomega and Time Warner.

I have the home signature series giving up to 30 megs down and 5 megs up. With the router and all machines connected I have speed tested and found this to be close to perfect using

Tests are averaging around 28.3-29.9 down and 6.3-9.8 megs up. ( this is megs not kbs I know the difference  ;D)

Everything works great except my NAS = Iomega Storecenter ix-200 with Cloud service

If I hardwire this NAS directly to my modem it works perfect ( 4-8 megs download speed when remoted in ). If I try to run it through this router I get capped out at 200-350k upload speeds.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated as I have the same issue with my friends Synergy remote access NAS and this is very apparently a Router specific issue.

While some won't recommend you to upgrade your routers firmware version, I am one that does recommend you to upgrade to the latest, which is 1.23N/A. Have you tried setting up a static IP and doing a gamefuel for the Nas?

I haven't upgraded the firmwear yet , though I have no issues doing so either.
However a static ip is not a realistic idea due to cost vs. use.

The other option is to throw up a $100 POS Dell Optiplex system and loading an OS that supports Dynamic DNS and using remote access into it to access my NAS. Yet again an extra hop that shouldn't be nessesary. The idea is to have the router perform this task as it should rather than using a computer to do it's job.

I have tried dumping the NAS on the DMZ ( didn't seam to work ) , Port forwarding everything directly to the NAS IP in the virtual server location in the gui of the router , and everything else we can think of. I may for the sake of time , try just buying a Linksys router tomorrow to test this with , but this does not seam a realistic solution to my issue.

I didn't mean a static IP address via your ISP, You can assing your Nas a static IP in the lan network via the router config page.

Yes the NAS has a static ip of 192.168.0.158

DNS does not automatically assign an IP to this device.

Local IP Address: 192.168.0.186

I would like to offer you assistance via team viewer if that is possible with you, or we could just talk it out via here, but I feel that it will take more time. Over at the iomegasupportforums they asked you to disable game fuel, your response was that it never was on by default. The DGL 4500 does include game fuel enabled by default you might want to check it out and disable it. Have a great day.

Thanks Lookintomyeyes. I would be happy to work with you on team viewer. I am unsure how to do that however. I get off at 6 pm CDT today and will be off for 2 days. Look forward to your response.

Be sure to take the NAS out of the DMZ before trying to apply any port forwarding or Gamefuel rules. DMZ bypasses all those. Also, make sure you get the same IP when you ping the cloud server (which I assume they gave you as domain?) with the router connected and bypassed. If your using advance DNS, it could be routing to the closest Cloud server to the DNS server, and not the closest server to you. Just a possibility. If you find that to be the case, disable advanced DNS and DNS relay and just set your ISP's DNS as static on the DNS. Most devices allow you to have a static DNS and keep your IP DHCP. Then ofcourse set a DHCP reseveration for it so the forwarding and QOS rules stay true.

Okay, I will be on tomorrow. Also I must say that I can’t guarantee you that I will fix your problem. But I can guarantee that I will try my best based on my knowledge on DGL 4500 settings. Follow the link below for the Team Viewer application, it does not require installation. Once you have downloaded the application PM me a time that you will be available for tomorrow. I will be on after 2:00PM EST. When the time comes than open up Team Viewer and PM me the ID and Password, remain with the program open so it does not change. Hard Harry, thank you for your input I will take it and use it as needed.

Yes Hard Harry the NAS is out of the DMZ currently. Thank you for reminding me though as this seams like it could be a simple mistake many make.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to respond lately , had a family crisis that kinda had my mind on more important matters. Please let me know when , if possible , you would be on again Lookintomyeyes and I will make sure to be available for you.

I understand their is no garentee on resolution , but currently I am stuck and have exhausted all other avenues of support ( Time Warner , Iomega , Microsoft ).

I did test the NAS again last night without the Router ( Nas directly into modem ) and verified it did have the correct bandwith when connected this way.

No problem. Life comes first. I would offer to help too, but I am not on as much as I used to me. I might get some time tommorow night. I will pop on and post and see if your around.

If it doesn't work out though, ping the cloud server with router bypassed, then ping it again with the router in place. See if its the same IP. If the cloud server is a IP, disregard. Other idea will have to wait for when I have direct input. Good luck with the whole life thing, I know all too well how it's complexity can make network issues seem tame. LOL
