Hello,
I have just purchased 2 HDS5C3020ALA632 Hitachi 2TB drives and put them into my DNS-323 running firmware 1.08. The 323 has been running smoothly with 2 500 GB drives for several years, but at this time I need more space. I have reset my unit back to factory default and attempted to format both drives together in raid 1, and individually as jbod in the 323 and the format fails. The format indicator seems to hang at 11 or 13%. After letting the format sit for an extended period of time at the spot where it looks stuck I can click the skip button usually and the unit responds very slow. From there I may be able to click on some of the other pages, tools, status for a little while, then port 80 stops responding and the 323 hangs. I have noticed that I get erratic ping times to the unit until it stops pinging completely and I have to pull the power to get it to respond. When it is powered back on the 323's drive status indicator light is pink. None of this was happening with the 500GB drives.
I decided to try firmware 1.10B7 out and pretty much the same thing happened. I was able to get the "Hard Drive(s) Formatting Failure. (Error Code:114)" on a couple of occasions. Also a couple of times I have gotten reports that the the drive I am working with currently formatted correctly and it tells me to reboot. After the reboot the indicator light for the drive is pink and it says it needs to format it again.
If I take the drives out and format them with Fedora 15 they format fine and I can copy data to them fine.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on? What is error code 114?
Thanks!
