What I always do seems extremely simple but works. I open my user folder, which contains the folders for Music, Videos, Pictures, etc.
Then I right click on a folder, go to properties, Location tab, and change the path so it points to my NAS.
The problem with Windows not being able to index any shares is not with Windows, but with the way Windows Search was set up. The
server has to index
itself, and give Windows the index file (xml) when required. So really, it's the NAS that has to support this, not Windows.
Makes sense too: it would be stupid if you would need to index a network share from each device that accesses it. And oh, the plugin mentioned above doesn't work on Windows 7
