DGL-4500 Dynamic DNS setting problem
« on: June 06, 2011, 10:42:21 PM »

Hello there,
I have a Synology DS211+ and DGL-4500 router, I want to access DS211+ NAS outside my local network through the DGL4500 router. I know I need to enable the DDNS on the router as local ISP is using dynamic IP. So I had registered a host name at No-Ip.com (for example: xxxxxxxxxx.no-ip.org).
But as I try to enable DDNS service in DGL-4500 and put data in all filed and click the save setting, the status shows the "Disconnect'

In server address field: I filled No-Ip.com, is it right?. If not which I should put in this field.
I had installed No-IP dynamic update client in my PC.
IP address of NAS is fixed on router.

Maybe this help?
 ;D

But FYI, they suggest using the PC client instead of the router client. If you already have the client on the PC configured, you shouldn't need to configure the router except for forwarding what ever you need the static for.

What I am saying is if you have installed the client, then you do not have to configure the router for DDNS. So if the client is working correctly, you are done. My question is, what isn't working?

FWIW:

I have the following settings setup to have it connected, but I am not sure it is actually working.  I just re-enabled it today and it shows connected so....

Enable Dynamic DNS:checked
Server Address:dynupdate.no-ip.com
Host Name: {MyHostName}(e.g.: me.mydomain.net)
Username or Key:{MyEmailAddress}
Password or Key:{MyPassword}
Verify Password or Key:{MyPassword}
Timeout:576(hours)
Status:Connected.

576 hours = 24 days, which I could theoretically change to longer, since I think that No-IP checks every 60 days, but...

Yeah, according to http://www.no-ip.com/support/faq/EN/general/expired_host_email.html it's 60 days....
