computers not showing up in router
« on: July 11, 2011, 08:01:08 PM »

Have another problem with my new rev B router.

I am trying to configure access control rules, but the list of computers (ip addresses and mac addresses) are empty, I have setup all of my devices with static ip's, they are all turned on and all have internet access. None of the systems including the one I am trying to configure the rules with are there, They don't show up in port forwarding either. Any one ever have this problem? I returned and DIR-825 Rev.b for this same problem because i thought it was defective.

I have tried rebooting the router, rebooting each pc and trying different ports on the router itself. There are wireless and wired computers that I am trying to setup but none of them show up. When I try to manually enter them into access control ie. 192.168.0.103 it will only allow me to put one computer in for each rule.

The old rev.A router this one replaced work perfectly fine with the same cables and computers setup the same way.

Any help is appreciated.

Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address. Don't set static on them.
Then Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
They should be listed under Setup/Networking/Dynamic DHCP Clients section at the bottom.
Select the Reserve word link on each row to auto fill in, into the ADD DHCP Reservation section above.
Give it a name.
Select ADD.
This ensures each device has it's own IP address that doesn't change and if it does, can break filters and rules.

Then you can set up filters and rules.

I've got most of my devices setup with static ip's in the router. If I do it this way I have to manually enter each ip/mac into the settings (port forward, access control...etc). I also found that with access control you can only add one device per rule, with my old rev.A you could add multiple devices, hopefully this can be fixed in a later firmware update. ???

It's weird too, I've noticed that the devices will sometimes show up in the network tab while at other times it will say zero. Refreshing the page a few times sometimes fixes it, but not always.

What FW version is loaded?

If the clients obtain a DHCP lease and the router reboots for any reason (like making a change then saving it), the clients will still have their lease but may not show up in the table because the router will flush the table on reboot. Best way to test it is pull an IP after the router reboots and see if it shows up. Or reboot the client.
