few problems with dir655
« on: July 13, 2011, 05:28:09 PM »

there's no problem with my previous dir 615 and i save its config then i load the config to my new dir 655. but no change.
my problem is when downloading something on downloading client software, the speed is good for both download and internet browsing. but few moments later the download still fine but internet browsing speed drops to almost nothing, bcz browsers (opera,IE,FF) cant open any sites and google takes forever, even cant access the router admin page. when the download finishes, the browsing speed back to normal or i could turn the router power off and back it on.

another problem is (just happened) the device info page shows everything disconnected, zeros ip, N/A but my connection is actually running fine. i can browse and download. i dunno how to solve it bcz already turn off/on the router, plug off/on the network cable, power cable, still weird info showing there.
my info page:
WAN

Cable Status :     Disconnected

You loaded the 615 config onto the 655 router? Or did you manually use the same settings as the 615?
Loading 615 config onto 655 shouldn't work due to differences in FW and HW.

What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP modem do you have? Stand alone or does it have a built in router by chance?
Setup Reserved (Static) IP addresses on the router for your devices.
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Ensure Advanced DNS Service is disabled if you have this option.
Ensure DNS Relay is enabled.

How are you connecting to the 655? Wired or Wireless?
What wireless modes are you running? Mixed? Single?
What FW version is currently loaded?

yup, actually it works, i thought it wont at first, but bcz my connection is unstable like i said before so i tried using the 615 config, and i feel my connection lilbit better. but with few mistake such as the system detected as 615 not 655, i know which part of config.bin that put info about my product, but i cant change it manually bcz when i load it, it'll fail due the checksum part at the end of config. i can show u the 615 config before and after loaded into 655 if u want.

im using cable, with motorola SB5101U.
already reserve dhcp for pc.
is it okay my dns empty or 0.0.0.0? i've tried using dns before but seems i dont see noticeable improvements.
dns relay enabled, no advanced dns service. prhaps bcz my HW.

i connect wired. i still curious about the best cable between devices tho, bcz right now i dont care about the length, and which crossover or straight, etc. and maybe that causes this problems.
choose mixed all mode, protection wpa only, tkip.
HW: B1, FW: 2.00, im in asia.
i dont connect thru wifi tho, but others laptop in my house would. and they cant connect if im downloading something, its like they get signal but dont get the bandwith.

and do u know what happen to my device info page? it just happened last night.. never had this happen before.. it still shows like that while my connection is still running normally.

You probably need to do a factory reset of the 655 router and don't load the 615 config file as the 615 config that you loaded is different and probably causing problems and missing items in the menu. It's not supported this way.

It's preferred to have ISP DNS filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.

i have done few factory reset alot to test my connection. so i've experienced the connection with the configuration like you've just suggesting me but the drops still there. thats why i end up with using 615 config, i have compared it side by side with the 655 config and no missing menu or such (advanced dns service not exist even after factory reset). and i also compared the config.bin file. in fact the drops are faster than using previous 655 config.

and the status info page, is back to normal right now, i guess because i reboot my pc, not my router..

thanks for ur help i'll try putting dns isp..=)

seems i've found my solution, i turned QoS back on, and uncheck automatic uplink speed then put manual uplink speed about 999999, until now my speed goes fine with both downloading and browsing at the same time..
