Issues With Formatting
« on: July 16, 2011, 05:33:11 AM »

Hi Everyone
First post on here and fairly new to this product however i feel that given time could become very useful tool. I have began setup this morning and i have got to the point where i have chosen how i wish my HDD's to run and first of all i used RAID 1 as the option and all i get is a response saying "Format Fail."

I am using two 2TB Samsung Spinpoint HDD's and the NAS 320 Sharecenter.
I have a feeling that i am going to have to format the drives individually but thought i would post on here to see if any way around any help would be much appreciated

Cheers
Rhys

Yes you will have to let the NAS box format the drives on set up. No way around that.

The ease of recovery depends to a large extent on the physical condition of the drive in question and, if there are two drives, how they were set up.

The easiest way to test is to put the drive in a USB caddy and connect it to your computer.  Since the drive is formatted Ext3 you will need a file system driver for windows but not linux.  If you can see the drive this way you can then copy the files as necessary.
