recycle bin
« on: January 19, 2009, 09:35:26 AM »

i know there is one thread from back in Aug 2008 about this but wondering if there is anything easier then that available now.

I want to have a recycle bin or something similar that if a file gets deleted by mistake that it will go there instead of being permanently deleted.  I don't care if this is on the nas itself or if there is someway that the computer accessing it, in my case i have 3 windows xp machines, will put the file somewhere?

any thoughts or suggestions?

We are adding it to 1.03 on our 4 bay device so more than likely it will be available from version 1.07 and beyond for the DNS-323.

Sorry no set dates as of now. Still working on releasing 1.03 for the 4 bay. Once thats done we will probably start plans for next firmware releases across our nas line.

that is the only way that i know of to add a recycle bin. this is because windows connects to the DNS323 with samba, so it is in the samba config that you add the recycle bin info.

Please be sure to make the recycle bin an optional feature (user selectable or user enabled).
There are some users who use the DNS-323 to keep copies of their multi-media data
(which tend to be large sized files), and when these files are deleted, we want them to
free up space, not to be copied to a recycle bin.
