Poor Signal
« on: July 20, 2011, 01:01:45 PM »

Hello,

I have AT&T U-Verse and it came with a built-in Wireless-G Router.  It was working great but I saw a deal for the DIR-655 and picked it up hoping to get better signal outside for when I want doing yard work and streaming stuff to my phone.  After setting it up my signal is worse than when I had the AT&T G router.  I tried auto-channel, tried setting it to a certain channel after surveying my area, and tried forcing it to only do G, BG, N, etc.  It did seem to get better when I forced it to only use N but I have a couple of devices yet that don't have N cards.......a laptop and wireless printer.  Any ideas?  I expected a lot more from this router.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? They can effect or produce interference. Try using InSSIDer to see whats around and channels they use.

Recommend get a DLink DAP device or adding WiFi, relaying or extending Wifi into areas you need.
Dlink has some new ones out.

I know that but my signal is even less than with my older ISP-provided router.  I would have thought I'd get some better signal density with the dir-655.

Its possible there is other external environmental conditions that maybe causing poor signal range. These routers should go a good distance however also depends on building materials and construction too and play a a part. Seens that if you saw poor signal with the old one and the 655 seems to be exhibiting the same...something else could be the culprit here.

Setting single mode G or N didn't improve the signal at all?
