DNS-320 Streaming to WDTV + Speed going down
« on: March 04, 2011, 02:06:24 PM »

Hi all!

I have recently bought DNS-320 and already spent several days looking for my problem.
There are some 6Gb video files on my RAID1 at DNS-320 and im streaming them to the TV through WDTV.
The problem is - video starts lagging after 8 mins. If the video file is larger - lag happens earlier.

What i've tried:
- streaming same video through PC to WDTV in the same network (works fine)
- play same video from USB stick at WDTV (works fine)

Then i decided to download NAS performance tester and i discovered that my DNS-320 is dying after some time:

If i look through my router, i see 5-8 mins of high activity and then download speed goes to zero.
And afterwards if the router is rebooted or in some time - everything is ok again.

Then i flashed new 2.0 firmware, it has influenced the speeds a little bit, but situation is the same.

Any ideas guys? Could this be a CPU bottleneck?

Having exactly the same issue.  I replaced a DNS 323 with this piece of $h1T and dlink refuses to do anything about teh performance issues.  Bad customer service.

Hello,

I have 2 DNS-320 (1 for my daughter and 1 for me) and 2 WDTV Live Plus, i shared the files using Twonky Server and I don't have problems.  I donīt access using CIFS.

The .mkv file size is from 8 GB to 14 Gb, for example Thor has 11GB and frame rate of 23.976 fps without problems.  Or Mazinger Z on Full BD 22Gb is ok.

I have a Gigabit LAN with Cat. 6 cable.  With films with a high frame rate the WDTV start to fail... I had an WDTV LIVE and change this model by the WDTV LIVE PLUS and solve many problems, but i thinking in change the live plus by the xtreamer Prodigy, more processor and Gigabit connection no 100Mbps.

Paredux,

PD. Excuse my bad english.

just tried this tool and mine are consistent (albeit lower due to wireless on my laptop)

could it be your hard drives in the nas?
could it be something else using your network during the test?
tried a different router etc?
when you say your pc is ok, same cable not just on the same network, maybe it has a fault of some kind?
