Greetings:

I have used DIR-655 (HW:B1 FIRM: 2.00NA) with Motorola SB6120 for sometime without any incidents.  My dl speed usually is around 26mbps. Lately, it happens twice that the dl speed drop to 10mbps. If I connect the SB6120 directly to my PC, the dl speed is 30mbps. Is my DIR-655 dead?

Any commens and help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Just reboot and the dl speed is as usual.  Is this normal since it already happens twice.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2 and Cipher type to AES only if your device support this.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?  unable to fill DNS.  ipconfig /all doesn't show Primary and Secondary DNS for Comcast
Turn off QoS options.  Done
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.  Done
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Done
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Done
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address. Can't find this options; however, the Internet Connection Type is set to Dynamic IP (DHCP) and Enable DHCP Server is checked
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP. Done

What wireless modes are you using?  Mixed G and N
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2 and Cipher type to AES only if your device support this.  WPA2 TKP and AES

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find ISP DNS addresses under Status/Device Info/Wan section on the router.

Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address. This is done on the devices, not the router. Just make sure they are setup to auto obtain IP addressing and not set manually for an IP address.

Thanks again for your clarification.

Since I have a dynamic IP, is the DNS also dynamic?

Use the ISP DNS found under Status/Device Info/Wan and test.

I had the same exact problem which I solved by turning off my modem/router over night and switching out the ethernet cable. I'm guessing it was the ethernet cable that was the problem. Hope this helps.

If your wired you should be closer to 30Mbs, if wireless, then thats probably very good.
If using wireless, you usually can not attain the same speeds as you will on a wired connection. Lots of variables in wireless that hamper wireless hardware. For gaming, it's always preferred to use a wired connection. Less head ache of dealing with wireless.
