Hi all,
I know there are already several posts concerning the same issue with the DNS-323 but so far I've been unable to solve this problem. My problem is that I cannot copy (large) files successfully. Sometimes it works just ok for a 700mb file but I might as well fail. Copying big files lets say a 6,1GB ISO file would fail like 95% of the time. Sometimes it fails after 20 seconds, but sometimes it lasts for over 3minutes before giving an error. This is the error I'm getting in Win XP Home SP3 but I have similar error messages of Vista and 7: "Cannot copy filename: The specified network name is no longer available."
The moment the error occurs, I cannot access the NAS using the mapped drive or \\dns-323\volume_1. Using the IP address instead of the DNS name results in the same error. I already tried to keep a ping running while copying a failing file but the ping continues when the copy fails. So I guess the NAS' network connection is working fine and something else is causing this stupid error!
I've been reading about master browser and other issues but all that does not apply to my case or the proposed solution does not work for me. I broke down my network to just my broadband modem being connected to a router (Linksys WRT54GS) and on that router, only my XP pc and the DNS-323. Also connecting the NAS directly to my PC via ethernet (to exclude the router) results in the same thing ...
The DNS-323 is on firmware 1,08, all drivers on my PC are up to date so I have absolutely no idea of what could cause this problem? In the beginning the NAS worked very well. only after some time I started having the problem. As I didn't have to copy a lot of large files until recently, the issue was not really disturbing me.
When I had to copy large files I used FTP instead and that still works very fine. Bringing me to the conclusion that the Windows sharing software on the NAS (Samba I suppose) is causing the problem.
Could anyone give me some advice as I would like to have the problem solved.
Thanks!
