Is dfl-800 a fast firewall ?
« on: August 02, 2011, 05:41:13 AM »

Hi all,

I have a DFL-800 as gateway using two adsl. The configuration is working as expected, but i have found that looks like it was an slow gateway. Specially when the firewall gets around 2000 connections (downloading torrent) i feel very slow if i try to navigate from another computer. You can't navigate. Before I had a  Linksys rv082 and haven't experienced slow internet access.

Is a dfl800 a slow firewall ? Could be my settings the trouble ? Any advice ?

regards

DFL-800 supports up to 20K connections and 150 mbit/sec performance
When you tries, what values was about CPU, memory usage? What was your download speed?
Maybe, you need to set up QoS to prioritize HTTP before other protocols

I use a dfl 210 less powerfull than dfl 800 using torrent without connections limit at the same time using emule without connections limit.

Firewall doesnot show cpu usage over 20% using 10mbit down 4mbit up

Using qos to get navigation priorized over p2p traffic you can navigate even with p2p bandwidth unlimited i think netdefend firewall are more powerfull than any home or soho product except last generation cavium and marvell processor routers

ok.. for using torrents.... i would agree, but then again, rather setup a linux based firewall if you want to download torrents..works a lot better, coz you can then store your data on he linux machine and share it on a media player.
