Issues with DIR-628
« on: November 22, 2008, 12:40:51 AM »

I am having problems with new my DIR-628.  Besides the fact that it requires a reboot after every single setting change (which is majory annoying and makes me [exploitive deleted] this router right off the bat), it gets to a point where it quits asking me if I want to reboot now or reboot later after saving changes and just reboots the router automatically.  That in of itself isn't so bad but what happens is that the changes that I try to make are NEVER actually taking effect.  If I attempt to change port fowarding settings, enable/disable DMZ, or do anything else once it gets to this point, the router automatically reboots after I hit save and after it comes back up, nothing I tried to do was saved.

I have 3 machines on my home network and on one of them I host a ventrilo server for my family.  I have been using this machine for years with my old DI-604 which sadly died on me last week.  I was able to get the vent server working with this new DIR-628 but it will not stay working.  The port forwarding will not stay in effect.  I have to keep resetting the DIR-628 via the reset button and then re-enter the port forwarding information to the hosting machine for it to work.  Static IP information and all.  What a nightmare!

I've flashed the firmware to 1.13 then back to 1.11 and I am having nothing but headaches out to this.  These issues just won't go away.  I'm taking it back to Best Buy and getting my money back.

Is this behavior normal for this router?

The same problem here. Looks line DLINK is giving us only 1 chance to change settings - after "reset to factory defaults". After reboot you can't change any of the settings any more!!! >:(

Where is that proud D-LINK software engineer, who wrote such a "wondefull" code?
Where is that proud D-LINK QA engineer that tested it?

HELP!!!!!

diletant,

Are you having the same issues as subscript with the port forwarding ventrilo server?
What firmware version are you running?
Have you tried to apply the port forwarding rules to Virtual Server?

I have 1.13 firmware.

I do not have a ventrilo server, but my point is that any setting, including port forwarding that "subscript" is trying to set are not saved into dir-628 flash!!!
THAT IS THE BUG!!!

I found the following workaround for saving settings:

1. save your settings into the file
2. restore factory default settings (do not reboot after that)
3. restore your settings from the file
4. make any changes you want
5. save your new settings into the file
6. reboot

Once you reboot, you can't make any changes to settings (they wouldn't apply)

I have the same problem with DIR-628 it does not save password, port forwarding, Time setting etc. nothing is saved. This is a big BUG. I am using  Firmware Version: 1.13 Hardware Version: A2 Product  DIR-628

How can you save setting to a file? When I try to save settings to a file without clicking save button on the pages that I entered new information it reboots and forgets all the new information. It would not let me go to save settings to a file page and tells me there is unsaved information on the page I am going to leave.

Look at my previous post.

Start with resetting to defaults;

Also, enable wireless radio after resetting to defaults - with wireless radio enable this bug is not happening.
