Hey everyone. I bought my 4500 back in May and have been having issues since. First off, Wireless N 5ghz refuses to work. I'm not sure why and I've upgraded the firmware to the latest. Second, I get random disconnects from the internet (router says internet connection goes down). These disconnects only last 10-15 seconds but they happen every couple hours. Having the cable modem connected directly to my laptop, I get no such disconnects. I do not know very much about wireless routing but any feedback would be great! Thanks.

Oh and 5ghz A does work. But it still refuses to connect to N. My wireless card is the intel 6230 which does support N 5Ghz.

Will it connect with out any security to test?

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2 and Cipher type to AES only if your device support this.

Single mode G and A work. Single mode 5ghz n not will not connect.

Hope all that info helps. Tried using the 1.23 firmware and reverted back hoping I would get a fix. No luck.

Any other Wifi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to see whos around you?
Do any other devices work on single mode N @ 5Ghz besides this one Intel 6230?

Ensure the Intel device drivers are up to date.
"Note: Not all Intel adapters are the same as D-Links' N line. Some Intel adapters do not support the broader 40 Channel Width option. This (by design) limits their connection speed to 130. Check the specifications of your Intel adapter to ensure that it is capable of bonding on the 40Mhz range to achieve the full 300Mbps."

I have about 16 items connected to my router and I think maybe one will connect at 5GHz.  Everything else is 2.4GHz.

There are tons of routers in the area. I live in an apartment complex. My laptop is the only device I have that uses N.
The wireless N does work on my laptop because I've tested it both at work and at my buddies house (he has a dlink dualband router  dir 825). Drivers are up to date. At this point I think it may be a hardware problem. I still get random disconnects weather on wireless or ethernet from the router. Any other suggestions would be great before I RMA this router.

Do you have a different devices that supports N @5Ghz that you can test on this router?
Might also take this router to your buddies place and see if any of his devices exhibit the same when trying to connect to the 4500.

I remember finding a free program online that shows my neighbor's wifi and what channel they were on.

Maybe try downloading a similar program and put your router's channel on one that none of your neighbor's is on?
