"The specified network name is no longer available."
« on: August 09, 2011, 03:12:57 PM »

Hi folks,

This message appears numerous times on these forums but it seems pretty generic and nothing that seems to apply to my situation.

I can connect to my DNS-323 through the the web-app, and in explorer either through IP Address or share name.  I can copy files manually - even large ones - seems to work fine.

However, when I try to automate back-ups with Second Copy, I continually get ""The specified network name is no longer available."  I've been using Second Copy for years for doing automated network back-ups across multiple Windows OS's on my Network (XP, Server 2003, Windows 7)  I also use it to clone data to laptops... never a problem....

Yet when I try running a Second Copy back-up, it fails when accessing a DNS-323 directory like:

Error writing W:\Robs Documents and Settings BU\Documents and Settings\...\filename.xxx The specified network name is no longer available

Of course, its no problem to manually browse to that same directory... I only get this message when Second Copy is backing up to my NAS...

Ideas?

Try to perform the same copy manually to the DNS-323 - what happens?

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.
