Worst Service!!! DLINK RMA sent me a defective replacement!
« on: August 12, 2011, 08:03:37 PM »

DLINK RMA service is worst I have ever experienced.

I sent my defective DLINK DIR-655 router to RMA department about 3 weeks ago, and finally got the replacement today. However, can you believe the replacement from RMA is also defective, not connecting Internet at all?!!

After spending about 1 hour with technical support again to confirm the replacement is still defective, I was told to request another RMA. Should DLINK expect me to spend another $10 shipping fee and wait for another 3 week for another replacement because of a mistake made by DLINK RMA service? That is riduculous.

Seriously though, not sure why your posting here. I mean I feel for ya, but nothing we can do here about that. We are just users. Good luck though.

Sounds like you got somebody else's used RMA'ed unit that was supposedly repaired?  ::)

There's also the possibility that neither are deffective, and the problem is something else, D-link support can't figure it out, and a RMA is just easier. If you get a 3rd "bad router" I would consider that as a serious likelihood.

I have been using DIR-655 for a couple years, and I am sure I know how to configure the router.

My original router just could not power up. I didn't see any chance it is not defective. Either did DLink tech support.

The RMA replacement could power up and LAN was just working fine. However, the WAN was always disconnected. I am sure the cable modem and Ethernet cable are ok because my desktop can connect to internet through them directly without any problem. Both Dlink tech support and I agreed it is defective.

I didn't mean to insinuate that the problem was any fault of yours, only that the probability of 3 defective routers is less then the probability that there is another cause to the problem.

Granted, a power issue or post issue is pretty clear cut, so it's likely the 1st router died or at-least the power supply did. A disconnect error could have to do with the auto duplex feature though, and the Ethernet port on your modem. Not saying that is likely, but it's a possibility. A possibility I suffered first hand. I had a problem with a DIR-628 and my PS3. My PS3 could connect full duplex to my modem, but it could not connect full duplex to my router. My router could connect full duplex to other PC's, when I later replaced it with the DGL-4500, my PS3 could connect full duplex to that. The theory was the PS3 had a bad port that didn't quite work with the auto-neg method of the DIR-628. Not saying you had this experience, but if I have learned one thing, it's that technology can still surprise you once in a blue moon. Sometimes it's helpful to keep a open mind.

Thanks a lot for the explanations.

For this case, my original DIR-655 was connecting to the same cable modem, DCM-202, which is also from Dlink, and had been working well until it could not power up. My original DIR-655 had firmware 1.34NA, and the RMA replacement has firmware 1.35NA. From the description of the difference between 1.34NA and 1.35NA, I did not see anything that might impact the connection to cable modem. So, because the original DIR-655 is working well with the cable modem, the RMA replacement is supposed to work with the same cable modem also if it is not defective.

Was curious, the router that would not power up, did you happen to put on a volt meter and test the 12volt power adapter? Just last week my modem was dead. I checked the power adapter and there was zero volts coming out. Sometimes you can take the adapter and router to radio shack and ask them to test the power and put on a universal power adapter of there own to see if the router still powers up. I took my modem to my buddys house as he and I have the same modem and the modem powered up just fine. Had to call and get a new power adapter shipped for free. Just saying the sometimes it's not the actual router, sometimes its the power adapter. Test everything out if you can to make sure you know whats going on before going to DLink.
