Author Topic: Can't get printer to work when hooked to router and slow speeds when online  (Read 7525 times)

Here is what I have hooked up:
I have a Gateway FX with vista
2 gateways running XP
PS3 or xbox depending on who is playing.
I use a magic jack for phone off of 1 of the xp computers.
Everything is wired

I recently tried to put my cannon printer on the router to use the network port. But cannot get it to print. I am lost so if anyone could help I do not know where to start or how to configure anything on this router. Just got it last week. I am using Suddenlink cable and suppose to get a 15 Meg connection. Lucky if I can get over 6 on this router.

Also can't download anything.

What ever info is needed let me know

Thanks

For using printers connected to the USB port, you'll need to install the SharePort utility on each PC that needs to print to the printer. I recommend using a wired LAN network cable connection for the printer if it supports network printing connections however.

What HW version is your router?
What FW version is currently loaded?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Review the Gameing and Gamefuel stickys to set up PS and Xbox consoles.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2. Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

IF you need additional help, some of us can remote in using Teamviewer.com and help you set up the router.

TCP Endpoint Filtering: Address Restricted

Anti-Spoof checking

Enable anti-spoof checking:
DMZ Host

The DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) option lets you set a single computer on your network outside of the router. If you have a computer that cannot run Internet applications successfully from behind the router, then you can place the computer into the DMZ for unrestricted Internet access.

Note: Putting a computer in the DMZ may expose that computer to a variety of security risks. Use of this option is only recommended as a last resort.

Enable DMZ:

DMZ IP Address :
Non-UDP/TCP/ICMP LAN Sessions

Enable :
Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration

PPTP :

PPPoE :

IPSec (VPN) :

RTSP :

Windows/MSN Messenger : (automatically disabled if UPnP is enabled)

Helpful Hints...

Enable the DMZ option only as a last resort. If you are having trouble using an application from a computer behind the router, first try opening ports associated with the application in the Virtual Server or Port Forwarding sections.

Advanced Network

If you are not familiar with these Advanced Network settings, please read the help section before attempting to modify these settings.

Note: Only Administrator has access to these functionalities.
UPnP

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) supports peer-to-peer Plug and Play functionality for network devices.

Enable UPnP :

Allow Users to disable Internet Access :

Allow Users to modify Virtual Server Mappings :
WAN Ping

If you enable this feature, the WAN port of your router will respond to ping requests from the Internet that are sent to the WAN IP Address.

Enable WAN Ping Respond :

WAN Ping Inbound Filter :

Details :
WAN Port Speed

WAN Port Speed :
LAN Auto IP

Enable LAN Auto IP :
Multicast Streams

Enable Multicast Streams :

Enhanced IGMP Proxy :

Helpful Hints...

UPnP helps other UPnP LAN hosts interoperate with the router. Leave the UPnP option enabled as long as the LAN has other UPnP applications.

For added security, it is recommended that you disable the WAN Ping Respond option. Ping is often used by malicious Internet users to locate active networks or PCs.

The WAN speed is usually detected automatically. If you are having problems connecting to the WAN, try selecting the speed manually.

If you are having trouble receiving multicast streams from the Internet, make sure the Multicast Streams option is enabled.

Good info.

Also you can find the HW version of the router on the sticker under the router.

The Primary and 2ndary DNS should be filled in. Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual on the router.

I would change the WiFi mode from Mixed all to Single mode G or Mixed G and N if you have N supported Devices.

Let us know how it goes. Teamviewer?
