Help: Raid1 disappeared from one drive
« on: August 23, 2011, 06:55:08 PM »

Hey guys,

Need some help here. Just was browsing my config tonight and realized one of my drives is suddenly JBOD, not RAID1. Scared the crap out of me.

I don't see a safe way to go ahead and convert the JBOD to RAID1 and then sync the data again.

Any ideas to help me out here?

Right. It didn't show degraded until I removed the JBOD, restarted. Then it shows degraded.

Now I put the JBOD back in (right bay) and now I think all I need to do is a Manual Rebuild...and I'm kind of hesitant to do it. But I'm also backing up that main drive right now so I'll be covered if I do go ahead to rebuild.

I think it will be safe right? I just want to make sure.

The first thing you need to do is backup all of your data (which you are doing). You should always maintain a current separate physical backup of your data.  Next you can rebuild the array.

You are on the right track. . .

To prevent the DNS-323 from recognizing the JBOD volume, you can mount the JBOD HDD in another PC, remove the partition, and then place it back in the DNS-323.
