DNS-320 only sees left drive
« on: June 15, 2011, 08:19:29 AM »

I just bought the DNS-320 and put two Western Digital 500 gb drives in it, intending it to be a RAID 1 backup for my important files. The trouble is, the installer only sees one of the drives, the left one. I tried swapping the drives around, and then it could only see the right one. In both cases both of the blue LEDs light up, suggesting that the unit knows that something is there, but neither the software nor the the web interface says anything about it.

Is the problem that one of my drives is broken? Is there anything I can do about this?

Hello,

I've the same problems than OskarS.

I've buy the DNS-320 with 2 Western Digital 2To (30 june 2011)

The DNS-320 see only the Left Drive (and it works correctly).

The Rigth drive run with a lot of noise. But I can see it in S.M.A.R.T Test, with no possibility to test.

I've contact the vendor to replace the Right WD HDD (under warranty), but with the new one, the problem persist (new HDD receive 19 july 2011).
When I'm connect the "failed" HDD via an USB Connector to a computer, I see it in Explorer, but with no possibility to access in.

When I'm add the new HDD, the DNS not show it in "Disk Management", and so not possibility format it and no RAID1.  >:(

Where is the problem ? HDD or DNS ?  ???

Thanks

I had the same issue.
The drive that was not seen was DOA, I exchanged it at the store for a new similar drive and it worked perfectly.
This is why RAID-1 is your best bet on any NAS: hard drive can (and will) fail unexpectedly, whether they are brand new or 5 years old.

Before buying a new drive, you might want to remove all partitions from the current unseen drive and see if it helps.

Hello,

I also have the same issue.
My brand mew DNS-320 only sees de HD in the left drive. I'm using two Samsung 1TB and both are perfectly fine. Anyone works fine in the left drive, but none of them are saw by the DNS-320 in the right drive.
Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks.
