DSM Error Can't connect to server
« on: November 19, 2008, 08:58:53 PM »

Hi,
I hope someone can solve this for me I just picked up my DSM 330 on Thursday last week and have been trying to get it connected since with no luck at all.
My PC WINXP Pro SP2 meets or exceeds all of the reqirements to run this device and server software.
I have installed the latest Server Software DivX Connected(tm) 1.4.0 Build: 59
I also installed the PC client DCMP 1.0.2 Build:0005 ("PCDCMP")
PC client will connect to server OK DSM 330 is stubborn and refuses to play ball.

DSM 330 will not find server ..
I tried DIVX server software as an exception in my firewall ..no luck
I have tried disabling my Firewall.. No luck
Tried using my Netgear HDX101 powerline adapters .. No luck
Tried direct connection to router.. No luck
PS: I have tried these more than once ... getting to point of returning the DSM 330 its that frustrating.
I can ping all devices on my network ( Laptop , PC and the DSM 330 using both my powerline adapters and direct to router connections

My IP config is as follows..

192.168.1.100 IP address of PC
255.255.255.0 Subnet mask
192.168.1.1 Default gateway
192.168.1.1 DHCP Server
64.59.144.18 DNS server
64.59.144.19

The IP config on the DSM 330 is ..

192.168.1.102 Ip address of D-Link DSM 330
255.255.255.0 Subnet mask
192.168.1.1 Default gateway

Anyone.. and I mean anyone out there that can take on this one ????

thx

Please try disabling you anti-virus software and see if it connects. if it does then you may need to add some exceptions to the software to allow the DSM-330 and Media server program to properly communicate.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice but had already tried that with no success, just forgot to mention it.
Actually I really don't like the idea of disabling any of my security software to install any programs, if the programmers can't develop a program that will install without disabling Firewalls and AV. I don't really want it, the device will be returned and I will just keep burning to DVD's. Besides when I think about it $236 for convenience is really to much. It was worth a try and try I did so back it goes ..

Thanks again anyway

Well that is the first step of trouble shooting if you are running a firewall or AV software. If that resolves the issue we know that the software needs to be configured.
