SharePort and Windows Firewall ??
« on: August 26, 2009, 02:22:02 AM »

Hi,

Was reading thru the more recent threads and it occurred to me about the Shareport issue(s) that I recall in my own XP Pro setups that the XP firewall keeps flagging the Shareport Software as it attempts to use the firewall to reach the router etc...  I have a Canon Pixma iP4500 color printer attached to my DIR-655 (FW 1.21)  USB port.

Sometimes my shareport seems to lose its connection for no obvious reason, the little systray icon goes red instead of staying green.... I usually just exit the shareport software and wait a fwe seconds and then re-start it (shareport utility, not the router).

I keep deleting the items inside the XP firewall Exceptions chart, and they keep magcally re-appearing, so obviously something is doing something to the firewall, which is turned off, but not fully disabled.  I use a more common 2-way firewall program so I don't even need my XP firewall service running as far as I am concerned.

Just a thought about something I haven't seen discussed...at least that I remember...

Hi,

Had this happen again tonite...  I had re-activated my windows Xp firewall service, altho it was "Off", the SharePort software STILL continues to be impacted, in my opinion, by the XP built-in firewall.

Again I lost my connection to Share Port for my connected printer.  After I re-disabled the Firewall Service and ended the Share Port software, and then re-started SharePort, I now have a connection again.

Can anybody else verify this on their system ?
