Problem with My D-Link 825 Router
« on: November 11, 2011, 07:02:32 AM »

Hi,

I have this D-Link DIR-825 and it was working fine till yesterday. All of a sudden it stopped connecting to internet. I restarted it and tried to login to the router but failed. I called the support and did a hard reset of the router. After that when I am not able to connect to the router from my computer for configuring it again. The support team is helpless.

When I connected the Router to my computer via LAN cable sometimes the LAN port is glowing and sometimes it is not. I tried different LAN Cables too. But nothing is working and I am not able to get to the router page. I tried giving static IP address to my computer too. But it is not working. I am hoping that someone from the forum can help me in fixing this problem. Please help.

Thanks in Advance.

Regards,
Suresh

Are the drivers for you PC network card up to date?
Do you see this issue if you change to a different port in back?

What Hareware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Yes the drivers on PC are up to date.
I tried on all ports but same thing, I am not able to connect to the router.

H/W ver : B1
Firmware Ver : 2.02NA

Optimum and Cable Internet.

Stand alone Modem. No router on the modem.

Not sure about the modem but it might be irrelevant as I am connecting the router directly to PC for accessing the router web  page.

I tried disabling the firewall on my PC too. and I tried only from one Laptop keeping all other devices shut.

The main problem is I am not able to get to router login page http://192.168.0.1 after resetting the modem. If I can get to that screen, I can set it up without any issues.

What browser are you using?
Try a different one like Opera or FF?

Be sure to clear out the cache for the browser your using.
Make sure your windows network properties are setup for Auto Obtain. You may have been using reserved IP address on the PC and could be not configured correctly.

Any other PC you can test the router out on?

Check cables, swap out to be sure. Cat6 or 5e recommended.

I tried IE and Firefox and I tried from 2 different laptops.

I tried by obtaining IP automatically as well as Static. When the router is reset, there will be no reserved IP's. I used 192.168.0.10 on my pc and tried to ping 192.168.0.1(router IP). It says "Destination Host Unreachable"

I tried changing the cables too...and as an FYI these are working cables which I am using all the time.

I am using cat5e cables.

And have you connected to all 4 ports to try to connect?
Sounds like this unit could be bad.
Sounds like you've done all you can for this.

On the PC that your connecting wired too, is there a data link light visible on the NIC card when connected to the router?

What are the lights in front of the router indicate? The LAN light should blink if connected. IF not or not ON at all, I would say this unit is bad.
