It seems that the 5.01 update for the Itouch seems to have fixed the problem

Ooops

worked for a few minutes then DIR 655 quit again.

My friend brought his DIR655 to my house and we had problems with that too. Both our I touches will not locate using the firmware map application.

My Itouch works using other locating apps  such as Google maps, weather radar app and one called mapme.

I also this morning had a replacement Cisco wrt120n router delivered this morning and the firmware map application worked for a few minutes then it to decided to throw in the towel.

If I throw on the Cisco wrt54G router the map application works immediately.

The only consistent feature I can think is the wireless N  although I did set both the Dlink and the Cisco N to G mode only to try that to no avail.

Definitely an itouch problem.....

Whether the fact that I am using a wireless internet connection has any relation to the problem I don't know, the Itouches seem to work anywhere else we try them.

Just thought I would put it up on the board.

Have you seen and or mentioned this on any of the Apple iTough forums? Wonder if anyone sees this issue.

I did on an Apple forum but I didn't see much action on it.

I have the dlink router on now, it's a good router. Last night I was out at a wi-fi spot and tried the Itouch and the response was immediate and it located me right at that spot. This morning at home I tried to locate at first it kept the location from last night, finally after a while maybe 10-15 minutes it finally placed me in the middle of a field about 250 yards away, close yes, but with the cisco g router it locates about 10 yards from my actual location, and instantly.

Very odd.
