Hi guys! has anyone got this error "A DLNA protocol error (2114) has occurred" when connecting PS3 to a media server using storage devices? i would like to hear it from you if you got any resolutions about this. I tried to search this error in the Internet and i was not able to get any work around to fix this problem. I already enabled the UPnP AV Server of the storage Enclosure and also on the router but still no good. I would love to hear suggestions from you guys..

The post eludes to a few things:

- WiFi connectivity issue; does the error occur when the PS3 is accessing the DNS via Ethernet?
- UPnP contention; does the error occur when the PS3 UPnP is disabled?
- UPnP folder selection; doe the error occur if you specify a specific folder instead of the root on the DNS?


I suspect it may be the 3rd point; try setting a specific folder on the DNS-323 instead of the ROOT in the UPnP section.

ok cool! thanks! ! and also do you think its the firmware of PS3 that causes this problem? This error occurs over wireless only. i will try to replicate this in our laboratory and see what will happen. thanks for the suggestions. i know it will help me a lot...

That's a good question ... the PS3 is out of my area of expertise - maybe a PS3 officianato could shed some light.

I've run into similar issues with UPnP over WiFi ... I've typically resolved them by 'hard wire' or changing the DNS-323 'root' to a specific folder.

Hi guys! I have verified this issue to our product specialist and they said that the new firmware of the DNS-343 should correct it somehow. Possible also that the UPnP of the storage is not yet compatible for PS3.

if you have comments / suggestions, please reply.........

I was getting this problem a lot with my 323 (haven't tried my 343 yet).  I configured the PS3 and the 323 to both have static IPs, instead of using DHCP, and restarted both and the problem went away.  I also tried the "not sharing root" fix, but i've gone back to sharing root and it's ok.  But i moved to Twonky media anyway to play > 2GB files.

I have connected to my ps3 (update 2.53) with my 343 (Firmware 1.2) with out any problems.  Initially I did get the protocol error and found that the 343 did not save the "enable" of the UPnP AV server.  I have shared the root drive and on the second attempt of enabling the UPnP server I was able to pull movies off my 343.

Yeah it should work OK. Try setting a static IP address to the DNS-343 if that doesn't seem to work if you are on a network range of 192.168.0.xx try changing it to 192.168.1.xx.

Im getting the same dlna protocol error trying to play files from the ps3 to the dns-321.  Previously it was errors of 2110 and 2101 but now im getting the 2114 error.  My network is now set up with static ips in the 192.168.1.xx range.  upnp enabled on the ps3, the router (WBR-1310), and on the dns-321.  Seems to occur whether i share the root or a specific folder..

Hi there, I´m having the same DLNA error message using a PS3 (fw version 3,42 by now) and a DLink DIR-685 (fw 2.0ww). I spent A LOT of time fiddling around with the settings, getting increasingly frustrated about the gap between advertising an realitiy concerning DLNA.

Whatever, the main problem seems to be that the DIR-685 is painstakingly slow in refreshing the media content. Try a chosing very small folder (not root or the HDD, but a subdirectory) with a dozen pictures or songs in it as streaming sorce and press "refresh". Wait until the DIR-685 finishes refreshing, then let the PS3 search for new media servers. I found out that everything works out fine then.

BUT: when I chose my whole music and pictures folders (about 60 gig, including HD videos), the DIR-685 will not finish refreshing. The firmware is so buggy that it will log you out before the refreshing finishes. Result on the PS3: DLNA protocol error 2114.


Oos, sorry, I should have posted it in the DIR-685 section but the firmware -  and the error for sure - is probably the same. Maybe someone can move the post...

So in the end, I could avoid the 2114 error when chosing small folders, refreshing completey and not chosing a root directory. In the end I found out that its easier to copy the whole picture and music stuff onto a simple USB drive. Still quite annoying that D-link does not provide what they advertise.

So if anyone knows how the refreshing process with the DIR 685 could be accelerated....

I recently received the error: "DLNA protocol error (2101)".
I did found the solution for that, and perhaps this will remove any other
or similar error with the DLNA protocol error.

I take it that this problem 9/10 times happens on Linux.
Based on that i have been searching and analyzing.

When you have a folder shared in PMS,
go to the terminal and head into the folder that you have shared.

(in my case that would have been "cd /home/username/Music/")

type for example "ls -ltr"

As you can see, if i am correct, the writing / sharing / reading rights for certain files will cause this error.

When you are in the sharing folder, now type: "chmod 775 *"
This means that you give all access rights to the files you are willing to share towards your PS3.

I did this to all the folders that i have shared,
and i made sure i had the "Folder" itself fully shared as well.

I hope this will remove most of the problems for any Linux user trying
to play music/movies trough its Playstation 3 MediaServer.
